 Liberty Stands Still (2002)
IMDB rating: 5.70
Plot: Liberty Wallace, who lives in Los Angeles, isn’t at all uncomfortable about her links to the weapons business. Liberty is a key player for McCloud Industries, one of the largest gun manufacturers in the United States. She’s the Vice President of Marketing, she’s the daughter of the company’s founder, and her husband is the company’s ruthless CEO, America’s premier arms merchant, Victor Wallace. While former war hero Victor is busy trafficking in international armaments, Liberty uses her business breaks to conduct an affair with actor Russell Williams. The balance of their marriage shifts when a sniper named Joe trains his rifle on Liberty as she walks through a busy Los Angeles park on her way to meet with Russell. Joe calls Liberty on her cell phone, and orders Liberty to handcuff herself to a nearby hot dog vendor’s cart — the cuffs are already there. Liberty has no intention of submitting to Joe’s wishes — until Joe begins firing shots. Quickly convinced, Liberty locks herself to the stand, only to learn that it is loaded with enough explosives to take out a city block. If she calls for help, hangs up the phone, mutes the phone, or fails to cooperate, the bomb will go off. Joe has also attached a bomb to Russell, who’s now trapped in his dressing room at a local theater. Liberty realizes she can’t buy her way out of this situation, and she is forced to consider Joe’s demand for an anti-gun forum. The reason why Joe is doing this is because his daughter was fatally shot by a school classmate who used a gun that was manufactured by McCloud Industries. The death of a child can break a parent’s mental balance. Now, Joe is demonstrating to Liberty what it’s like to be on the other end of the weapon, and show Liberty the horrors of what she has had a blind hand in for years. Victor has apparently bartered illegal deals without Liberty’s knowledge, ones that have resulted in easier access to weapons for street dealers — the ones who sold the weapon that killed Joe’s daughter. As a result of his daughter’s death, Joe wants Liberty to use her political connections and this incident to spark a public debate on the Second Amendment. Despite his past as a CIA agent, Joe no longer supports the unequivocal right to bear arms. Joe lets Liberty know that she’s going to die, but that she can die a hero if she exposes the company’s shady business dealings and political connections before she’s killed. As Joe monitors and records her every move, Liberty reveals secrets about her own past, and her business dealings. When Victor, who is also having an affair, finds out that Liberty has been taken hostage, he’s torn between following company protocol — protecting himself and allowing Liberty to be killed — and trying to help her.

Why are Republicans so afraid of Obama and what they think he can do to harm you?
It seems like Republicans are afraid of Obama and that he’s going to take everything important to them away. That’s what the Bush administration did. I lost my house, my job, my 401K, civil liberties and trust in government because of what he and Cheney did to the American people and what they didn’t do for the American people.
You may not like him, trust him, think he’s something other than what he says, but in his first year he’s done more to try and help get America back on its feet again. The only thing that’s stood in his way is the Republican politicians and their determination to take him down, tell lies to make people think he’s something that he’s not and he’s going to destroy this country.
That’s exactly what they did for 8 years and you’re still here, you survived and hopefully will have your country back. If you trusted Bush, given his lies, manipulation, scare tactics so Americans would let him do what he wanted, What worse things can Obama possibly do, even if he isn’t who he says he is, which i don’t believe, that would make you distrust him and be so afraid of him?
He’s only been President for a year and you all act like he is poison. Come on now and use your logic, rather than thinking with your emotions.
I’d appreciate honest answers and not distatsteful, or sarcastic ones.
Very well said. The Q & A with the GOP the other day should have opened up a lot of eye’s. Unfortunately the stubborn will never admit to any progress this president has made to taking back America for it’s citizens. The more honest and open discussions the president has will show the reasonable people of this country that he is a good man working for the well being of Americans. The far right will at any cost do what they can fail this president, even if it hurts Americans. The proof is that many of the GOP’s health care ideas were incorporated into the Obama plan. Yet, they still vote against it just to make him fail. GOP members took credit for local public works initiatives paid for by the stimulus plan, just to trash it and the president. The GOP are their own worst enemies, lets just hope they don’t wise up so we can have 4 more years.

His goals of "returning the country to its rightful owners" will put far too much control of the daily economic system in government’s hands. Centrally planned economies DON’T WORK, and a "hybrid" is proving to be a disaster in the US…
His world view is dangerously naive and he is ill equipped to deal effectively with world leaders on a potentially hostile stage… His foreign policy has been a disaster for US interests.
His "fundamentally transforming" the US is NOT what he was elected to do, hence the Tea Parties and defeats in NJ, VA and MA…
We got exactly what we elected - an amateur, inexperienced narcissistic politician who is in over his head… no sarcasm… simple truth… If the potential consequences of his immature plans weren’t so dire, it would be truly funny to watch.
As far as Bush goes, can you honestly say the dems gave him a chance? They were having nonstop temper tantrums 24/7/365 for "stealing the election", along with a media that was demonstrably against him… Remember, too, that the dems held Congress for the last two years, which coincides with the start of the economic problems we face.

The question itself fulfills your own last sentence!!! Blaming Bush is the only thing that the libs have!!!! Here is an example of libs,….9/11 was Bush’s fault only nine months into his term, yet libs scream that 0bama has not had enough time after one full year!!!! Afraid of a kenyan, no, but his policies are against everything that America was built upon!!!!!

The man wanted to put me in jail for not having health insurance. If that’s not taking EVERYTHING from me, I don’t know what is.
And by the way, your own decisions cost you your house, your job, your 401K and whatever. Bush did not force you to take a job that was going to end, lay you off, fall apart or whatever happened to it. That’s just patently ridiculous.
